“Fear is just a consequence of the unknown. Once you face it, it’s powerless.”
I’ve been playing games for longer than I care to admit, and I’ve always been drawn to survival horror, twisted psychological games, and city-builders set in post-apocalyptic worlds. The fight to survive against impossible odds speaks to me—and to many gamers, I’m sure. There’s something irresistible about those moments of sheer panic, resource scarcity, and the constant tension of not knowing what lurks around the next corner. But here’s my problem:
I’m afraid of the dark.
Okay, that might be a bit dramatic. I’m not actually afraid of the dark. I don’t sleep with the lights on, and I’m not someone who gets easily scared by movies or jump-scares. But there’s something about the way horror games immerse you in their worlds—where it’s just you, the eerie sound design, and the ominous creak of something unknown—that really gets to me.
I was completely rattled by Resident Evil. I’ll admit it: I nearly shat my pants playing F.E.A.R.. The atmosphere in Metro 2033? Absolutely terrifying. And while I’m a huge fan of the Alien franchise, I’ve never worked up the courage to play Alien: Isolation, despite hearing it’s one of the best horror games ever made. There’s just something about being hunted that sends chills down my spine.
The truth is, I love the idea of survival horror, psychological horror, and paranormal combat. The way these games get into your head and make you question every step you take fascinates me. But when it comes time to actually play them, I’ve always hesitated. Maybe you’ve felt the same? You love the concept, but when that first jump-scare hits, or the tension builds to an unbearable degree, you start thinking twice about moving forward.
But not anymore.
This is my journey into the darkness. I’ve decided it’s time to face these fears head-on and dive into the games that are designed to make your skin crawl. From the twisted streets of Silent Hill to the relentless terror of Dead Space, I’m ready to explore the worlds that have been haunting gamers for years. And I’m inviting you to come along with me.
It’s time to face my fears. Will you face yours too?
